Westcliffe Stables offers premier horseback riding experiences and top-notch horse boarding services. Our well-maintained facilities, experienced instructors, and gentle horses provide the perfect setting for riders of all skill levels to enjoy the thrill of horseback riding. Whether you're looking to take group lessons, go on scenic trail rides, or board your beloved equine companion, Westcliffe Stables is your destination for all things equestrian.
Most popular with our guests, parents can watch, or join, their kids on horseback through obstacles set up in our 100x230 piped arena. You can expect a variety of courses to be set up for your visit such as wooden stairs, hoops, poles, and many more. Safety being our number one priority, staff will avidly supervise and brief quests on the courses so that you know if it is best for you.
Riding poles in the arena can be taken on at all skill levels. Not only does this keep our horses coordination, balance, and concentration sharp, but it also gives riders a feel for navigating their horse. Weaving through poles on horseback should definitely be on your list of activities to check-off during your visit!
Nothing exudes confidence like hugging barrels in the arena. Come ride at your speed around a combination of routes set up by our staff. Walk, trot, or loap is welcomed and encouraged here.
"Roping the dummy" is an activity that makes time fly, especially for those with competitive nature. We have roping dummies set up sparingly around the ranch and ropes readily available for guests to practice or learn a new skill. Be careful, this simple roping activity tends to become competitive amongst our guests.
Cattle drives on the ranch are suited for the more intermediate to advanced rider for safety. Riding drag, swing, or flank moving small herds of cattle around the ranch is what you can expect during this activity. It is all for leisure, so feel free to "cut up" and learn a few things about ranching.
At Westcliffe Stables every experience is a learning experience. We give guests the opportunity to watch experienced cowboys work with colts daily. This is an opportunity for guests to ask questions and experience an old tradition.
Discover the beauty of Colorado through personalized horseback riding experiences with Westcliffe Stables. Our small and intimate group rides, led by experienced and friendly guides, offer a unique and tailored adventure.
With Westcliffe Stables, you can choose from a variety of trails, ranging from serene tours around the Great Sand Dunes National Park to thrilling rides in the National Forest, complete with a mountaintop lunch. We can even combine your horseback ride with fly fishing for a truly unforgettable experience. Our small group sizes ensure a personal and high-quality experience for every rider.
During our rides, you may have the chance to spot deer, elk, pronghorn, birds, coyotes, and other wildlife, as our private trails offer a peaceful and undisturbed environment.
To ensure you have an enjoyable trail riding experience, it's important to be well-prepared for varying weather conditions. Please bring a rain jacket (no ponchos, please) and a water bottle as mountain weather can be quite unpredictable. Rest assured, we'll ride regardless of the weather, be it rain or shine.
For the safety and comfort of our riders, please note that we have age and weight restrictions. Riders must be at least 7 years old and should weigh under 250 lbs.
We highly recommend making your trail ride reservations in advance, as our slots tend to fill up fast. This is especially crucial for larger groups, as it can be challenging to accommodate last-minute bookings. Therefore, it's best to plan ahead and secure your reservations with us but, we do accept walk-in rides when available.
While our standard trips are typically half-day or full-day trail rides, we are more than happy to customize an experience tailored to your preferences. Whether it's adding a stop for fishing or designing a different style trip package, we aim to create the perfect trail riding experience for you.
All of our refresher programs are personalized and include weekly sessions with the owner. Before a horse enters the training barn, it's a good idea to take advantage of the free evaluation we offer to discuss our upcoming goals for both you and your horse. We keep all clients extremely involved with their horses because that is the key to perfection. Clients are encouraged to visit as often as possible to witness the rapid progress of their loved ones. Horses are handled daily, regardless of their training program. We make good use of our turn-out pens for horses that have a day off from training.
Our program is centered around establishing a secure and respectful connection with the horses right from the start. We establish precise expectations for the behavior of the horses, whether they are being led or ridden. We acclimate the horses to a variety of real-life scenarios, such as loud noises, diverse animals, and obstacles, to cultivate their ability to remain composed and self-assured in any situation. The cost of the program includes accommodation, and feed.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during business hours for walk-in rides.
